The best diamond size is one that works with your design and the way you wear it. Start by reading the weight correctly, then look at proportions and comfort.

Carat measures weight, not width

One metric carat equals 0.2 grams. It is different from gold karat, which describes purity: 18K refers to the gold, while 1 ct refers to gemstone weight. Carat is one of the four diamond quality factors, alongside cut, colour and clarity. GIA explains carat weight.

Two diamonds with the same weight need not present the same outline or face-up size. Shape and proportions matter, so ask for dimensions rather than using weight as your only measure of scale. The appearance of the whole setting also matters. GIA’s diamond quality guide explains the role of the four quality factors.

Centre stone and total weight mean different things

The centre-stone figure describes the main stone. Total diamond weight adds together the diamonds included in the stated item or set. A total is not a promise that there is one diamond of that weight.

Examples to help read a specification — not product offers
Example designHow to read it
One 0.50 ct stone0.50 ct in a single diamond
Five stones of 0.10 ct each0.50 ct total, spread across five diamonds
Two earrings, each with one 0.25 ct stone0.25 ct per earring; 0.50 ct for the pair

For earrings, always check whether the description is per stone, per earring or per pair. For a multi-stone bracelet or necklace, ask how the total is divided between the main and additional diamonds. This makes comparisons much clearer.

Choose a scale for your routine

Think about what your jewellery needs to do. A ring worn while typing should feel comfortable against neighbouring fingers. A necklace should sit where you want it at your chosen chain length. Earrings should suit your preferred balance of size and ease of wear.

Photographs are useful for style, but a close-up is not an actual-size view. If you are comparing options, request dimensions or discuss them at an appointment. A screen illustration should be treated as a relative guide, especially when viewing it on a phone.

Using the Victoria Diamonds customiser

On eligible pieces, the diamond controls show carat per stone alongside the number of stones. Review each visible group and open the additional diamond specifications where offered. Check the configured total before requesting your secure payment link. Available choices depend on the design and diamond origin. Where offered, Natural mode lets you choose diamond shape and quality. Per-stone designs and fixed Silver pieces keep the restrictions shown on the product page. If an all-natural configuration is unavailable, contact us for an appointment.

Silver Collection designs have fixed stone specifications. Browse Daily Sparkle for customisable pieces, Men’s Collection and Keepsake Collection for rings and other designs, or Silver Collection for fixed-design options.

Should you choose the largest option?

Choose the option that suits the whole piece and your preferences. Before ordering, compare your stone selections, metal, final quotation and intended wear. If you are unsure, ask us to review the configuration with you.
